HOW IT ALL STARTED

It was the right time, the right place, and the perfect match.

One — Shannon, a surf coach born on the beaches of South Africa — traded his wetsuit and cold water for boardshorts and the tropics.

The other — Imke, a surfer girl from Germany — was tired of running her own hair salon and dreaming of a tropical life with a personal surf coach by her side.

Both had experienced surf camps before: one coaching and managing them, the other as a guest. Along the way, we noticed things we wanted to do differently — and that's how the idea of a small, personal surf retreat was born. Our aim is to offer a cosy, intimate experience with access to the best waves in the area — a warmer, more personal alternative to the big surf camps in the region. The size of our southern Sri Lanka surf retreat lets us stay flexible around our guests' needs, giving you the perfect place to **SURF. STAY. CHILL.**

Our adventure began in the beautiful surf village of Madiha, Sri Lanka, where we spent two wonderful years creating memories with so many brilliant guests. When a new opportunity came up — a location offering easier access to surf spots and other activities along Sri Lanka's south coast — we knew it was time for the next chapter.

**Introducing OceanLife Surf Stay.**

Nestled among the trees just outside the well-known Weligama Bay, our quiet three-storey space features a big garden (Polly loves it) and five king-size rooms designed to make you feel right at home.

On the top floor, you'll find our in-house restaurant and chill-out space, with 360° panoramic views over the trees and wildlife.

Imke has always loved cooking and baking, ever since her days in Germany. Now, with the help of our local team and the island's incredible flavours, she creates dishes that blend a Western touch with authentic Sri Lankan ingredients — from our famous banana chocolate bread (a guest favourite) to taco nights and local curry nights. It's just a taste of what's on the menu.

We're lucky to have the beach just a couple of minutes' walk from our front door, and several surf spots a short bike ride or tuk-tuk away.

The next step? Don't just take our word for it — come and experience it for yourself.

We can't wait to welcome you.
